This thing takes up a -lot- of room in my house, and with the marquee portion it's too tall to fit in the low ceiling areas in my basement. Whatever I'd do, I'd certainly get something a little bit smaller (but still 4 player). Still, if I had to do it again I'm not sure which route I'd take. Plus I have to admit that I like the idea of the "authenticity" you get from it being a real arcade cabinet that was actually used for that purpose, as opposed to a wooden cabinet cut out to look like a real cabinet.

The company I got the wood from does full cabinets, but at the time they were charging closer to a grand for that, versus the $350 that I spent on this (plus $50 to rend a U-Haul for a day) and I get the coin mechs and a bunch of other hardware. Ultimarc made interfaces for them but it sounded like more trouble than it was worth. They were digital joysticks that behaved like analog joysticks because they tracked position on a 7x7 grid. I would have used the joysticks, but Atari used a bizarre, custom joystick type for these cabinets commonly called a "49-way joystick". The wood for the controller was about $150 and I had to provide all the parts, but between what I salvaged from the original cabinet and a bag of buttons/switches a buddy of mine gave me that were leftover from his own project I had enough to fill it up. The controller came from a company that does custom CNC for stuff like this. The problem is finding something like this in your local area because while they might be for sale, it's not like you can ask the seller to throw it in a box and ship it to you.Įverything that I removed (the main board, the original joysticks, the wiring harness, etc) all got donated to a local arcade where I was hoping they could make good use of it. They made a lot of these and with normal wear and tear you can find them for around $300-400.

That plus while Gauntlet Legends is a cool game and all, it's not like ripping apart a vintage Donkey Kong cabinet. Many of the buttons didn't work (sticky from booze spills and microswitches needed replacing), and the monitor was pretty blurry and burned in so I ended up replacing it with a brand new Wells Gardner D9400 that cost more than what I paid for the cabinet itself. As for how "functional" it was, it was in pretty rough shape when I got my hands on it. hi guys, I just downloaded the full 0.37b5 romset which I need to play with iMAME4all It's huge and I prefer to upload just some roms at a time to my ipad Problem is, I'd like to upload 1st. I had been looking for months for a cabinet that met my criteria (decent sized display, four players, large enough to take a custom controller, etc) before I found this one so I jumped on it when I had the chance. As for what I could find, that was dependent on what was available in my area. MAME and coin-op alike are welcome here! It is very possible that neo-geo is the only bios that was used back then, that was the big one everyone asked about then as well, so as long as you have the master rom and the game is listed as working then it should just work asides from the neo geo games that use the neo-geo bios as the master romĮDIT created a 0.37b5 set from my 150 set, the results are I am currios though so I am scanning my 150 set to build a 37b5 set from it to see how much is missing

You can also get the PC MAME32 (older MAMEUI) from ĮDIT I wouldn't bother with the MAME bios pack we have at all (it only results in a neo-geo bios anyway once you scan it with clrmamepro using the dat for MAME 37b5) and MAME 37b5 does not list bios images anyway it just has a huge list with everything together Though this is for MAME 133 so will have extra's and updated bios sets that are not used in 0.37b5 so you are best off using something like clrmamepro and the dat file for version 37 that you can get from
